Greencities & S-Moving 2022 have launched the new figure of guest city with the aim of giving visibility and highlighting to the smart ecosystem a reference territory in the framework of smart urban management, the application of new technologies in the field of connected and sustainable mobility, as well as the commitment to citizenship.

The guest city has participated prominently in the different areas of the event in order to present the path it has followed to become a smart city. The following aspects, among others, have been presented:

Gijón has been the guest city of Greencities & S-Moving 2022. In this way, the Gijón Smart ecosystem has been present in the different areas of activity of the event in order to present the path it has followed to become a smart city.

Gijón has become a European benchmark in energy transition, digitalization and social innovation thanks to projects such as “Gijón Smart Light, Smart City”. Likewise, the city is bidding to become European Capital of Smart Tourism after being certified as a Smart Tourism Destination by Segittur in 2020.

In addition, in terms of sustainability, Gijón is raising awareness among companies with the Impulsa Empresas EcoCircular project; it is following a Sustainable Energy Action Plan and is part of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (PACE).

In this way, the city has presented success stories, examples of public-private collaboration, challenges and difficulties, funding opportunities, agreements, partnerships and actors involved.
